Test tubes
Samco soda glass test tubes are suitable for general laboratory work and can withstand moderate warming (e.g. in a water bath) but NOT direct heat. They are an economical choice for situations where direct heat is not involved.
Samco ‘50’ neutral (also known as neutral borosilicate) glass test tubes can withstand moderate temperature changes but should not be used straight from cold to a hot Bunsen flame without pre-warming first (e.g. by moving tube in and out of a Bunsen flame). These glass tubes have good chemical resistance and are a cheaper alternative to borosilicate glass when only gentle heating is required.
Pyrex and Samco ‘33’ borosilicate glass test tubes are suitable for most laboratory applications and may be used for heating samples up to boiling etc. This glass type has very good heat and chemical resistance.
As with any glassware, continuous intensive heating of one area may result in softening and deformation of the glass.
